Virtuality webisodes/trailers/reality show/clips/?

Apparently the 12 minutes of footage from Virtuality (see previous post) spread around the web more quickly than in the form it was intended as. Sci Fi Wire points out that the Edge of Never: Life on Phaeton fictional reality series (is that confusing?) has been posted as webisode-style clips on this Edge of Never Facebook page. I haven't cross-referenced all of the clips on the Facebook page with the 12 minute clip, but it looks like it's mostly the same stuff, except strung together in the 12 minute clip. I find it unfortunate for FOX to have tried to create a sort of viral sensation tied to Virtuality, but now it just looks a little silly - The 12 minutes have been circling around the web since about the same date as the earliest post on the Facebook page, which only has 108 fans. It's still fun to get a glimpse at what the show will look like.

I'm trying to figure out if when Espenson said at the end of webisode 1's commentary "That was the end of webisode one. Where's the fleet?" she meant that "Where's the Fleet" is the actual title of webisode one. She mentioned nothing of the like in the commentary for webisode 2.

The Face of the Enemy webisodes begin December 12

We here at FRAK have made a conscious decision to not entertain and/or spread the rumors about the content of the upcoming season 4 webisodes that have been banging around the net for the past week or two. We (or I at least, since I'm about the only poster here lately) will continue to condemn the rumors by only reporting here that SciFi announced the 10 webisode series, titled The Face of the Enemy, will begin on December 12 on scifi.com. It has not been stated how the 10 webisodes, 5 of which are supposedly directed by Jamie Bamber and the other 5 by James Callis, will actually be presented since one per week would not fit into the 6 weeks spanning between December 12 through Jauary 16.

"Sci Fi would not confirm or deny" the webisode rumors.

* "The 10 webisodes, entitled "The Face of the Enemy," tell a story that takes place between seasons 4.0 and 4.5 of Battlestar and follow Lt. Gaeta when he is sent off in a Raptor with a handful of strangers and one of them mysteriously dies. The psychological human-vs.-Cylon struggle is played out in the restrictive confines of a Raptor as everyone is a suspect, and paranoia sets in among the group. Grace Park and Michael Hogan also star." *

Webisodes on January 15?

This just seems odd, but The Futon Critic reports: "...keep an eye out for "BSG: Essential Elements," a half-hour special on Sunday, January 11 at 11:00/10:00c. And if that wasn't enough "Galactica," it's understood the latest wave of webisodes for the series will be broadcast during the network's January 15 presentation of "Pitch Black.""

What seems odd is that since the series finale, season 4.5, premieres it's first of 10 episodes the day after - on January 16, and since there are supposedly going to be a total of 10 webisodes... and since they are in fact "webisodes" (which insinuates to me that they will be on the intrawebs), it doesn't quite seem possible that 10 so-called webisodes would air on television and all in one night.

Perhaps the webisodes will run on SciFi's website the weeks prior to January 16, which would be on par with how the Resistance webisodes and the Razor "Flashbacks" were presented, but guess what - we're just about at week 9 before January 16, and there were supposed to be 10 webisodes. Way too mysterious for my already tortured soul.

W00t? Did I just say 9 weeks?

Webisodes, 11+ hours, and TV Movies?

First of all, I have to say that the midseason finale "Revelations" was perhaps the best episode of RDM's Battlestar Galactica yet. I had always favored "Scar" and "You Can't Go Home Agaian", and perhaps it's because of the newness of it all... but I hadn't seen any other season 4 episode even start to live up to he bar set by BSG from the very beginning until very recently. The midseason final certainly made up for anything the earlier season 4 episodes had lacked, and then some. That's not to say the last few S04 episodes weren't exceptional.

Anyhew...

This is old news mixed with newer news, but it's all pretty solid now... for the most part:

We can confidently expect another set of 10 webisodes in the long season 4 hiatus we've only just begun. *takes deep breath*

Speaking of the hiatus, that is also pretty much confirmed to be significantly long. The "first quarter" of 2009 references are backed by the following from E! Online's report from the midseason finale panel and prescreening (linked in next post):

"I talked to Dave Howe, Sci Fi Channel president, and you guys are definitely going to have to wait half a year for the final 10 episodes of Battlestar Galactica. He told me that, "[It will premiere] first quarter next year—we haven't fixed a final date, but we don't want to keep the fans waiting too long.""

- Pfft. We don't like it, but we're certainly used to it at this point.

At least we'll not only be getting webisodes, but also a (slightly) longer end to season 4 as well as one if not possibly three Battlestar TV movies, as Mo Ryan "The Watcher" recently reports.

Apparently RDM talked NBCU into at least 11 hours to be able to get everything he needs out of the script for the season finale. That's "at least 11 hours" and perhaps more, but I can imagine that they would give us too much more. If anything I can see them mincing the supposed TV movie(s?) as extra season 4 episodes like they tried to do with Razor as episodes 401 and 402.
